First words & beginner courses
For a gentle, playful introduction, choose animated beginner cards. These packs introduce words and short phrases through illustrations, pronunciation and interactive challenges. Designed especially for beginner learners around ages 7–10, they offer a manageable way to explore a new language.
- OH LA LA! — French
- VAMOS! — Spanish
- LOS GEHT’S! — German
- IDEMO! — Croatian
- NI HAO! — Mandarin Chinese
For a broader beginner course, choose For Real Life. Work through 20 units covering everyday situations, with conversations, vocabulary, grammar and practice. Begin in Guided mode, then try Practice or Challenge as you become more comfortable. These modes change the amount of support within the same beginner course.
Choose your language: French for Real Life · Spanish for Real Life · German for Real Life · Italian for Real Life.
Our suggestion: choose the cards if first words and short activities appeal most; choose For Real Life if you want a structured introduction to using the language in everyday situations. The cards are an optional starting point, so you can begin directly with a beginner course.
Language for holidays
New to the language? Start with a beginner holiday course. Build practical language for greetings, ordering food, shopping, transport, accommodation and asking for help. Work through the course or focus on situations you expect to use on your trip.
Beginner options: French for Holidays · Spanish for Holidays · Croatian for Holidays.
Already comfortable with basic holiday exchanges? Choose Advanced Level. Build longer conversations, explain your needs, compare options and handle changes of plan through 20 advanced units. Begin in Guided mode, then try Practice or Challenge for less support within the same advanced course.
Advanced options: French for Holidays — Advanced Level · Spanish for Holidays — Advanced Level · Italian for Holidays — Advanced Level.
Which should you choose first? Start with Beginner if greetings, ordering food and asking for directions are new to you. For Italian beginners, start with Italian for Real Life in the beginner section above. Choose Advanced if you already manage these exchanges. Each advanced course is a separate purchase; you do not need to buy the beginner course first if you already know the basics. Try the complete first-unit demo on the product page.
For Real Life offers broader everyday themes; For Holidays concentrates on travel situations. Choose the focus that matches your plans.
The Quest 365 learning journey
Choose Quest 365 for language practice through illustrated stories, everyday situations and 365 small quests in each course. The suggested progression is:
- My First Year: start with the opening quests and the supported Start route to build everyday language. Available for France · Spain · Germany · Italy.
- One Year Later: choose this intermediate follow-on when basic conversations feel familiar and you are ready to connect ideas, explain choices and tell stories. Completing My First Year is recommended; equivalent experience also provides a starting point. Available for France · Spain · Germany · Italy.
- Two Years Later: choose the advanced chapter when you are comfortable with connected sentences, familiar past tenses and everyday opinions. It develops richer expression, viewpoints and more independent responses. Designed for confident intermediate learners, typically ages 12+. Available for France · Spain · Germany · Italy.
My First Year and One Year Later are designed for learners aged 8–18, with support adjusted to the learner. Across the series, Start, Stretch and Own It offer different amounts of support and challenge.
The year titles show the order of the adventures. You can start whenever you like and move at your own pace; you do not have to wait a calendar year to choose the next course. Each title is a separate purchase with its own progress. Earlier purchases are not required if you already have suitable experience.

Choose the area you want to strengthen. These apps work on their own or alongside a broader course; you can start with their introductory activities.

- “I get stuck with verbs.” Choose Verb Quest — 100 Verbs in Action. Explore useful verbs, reference tables and mini-dialogues. Begin with Starter, then try Explorer and Confident; the tense content varies by language. Designed for children around 8–12 and older beginners. Available in French · Spanish · German · Italian.
- “I want to understand how sentences fit together.” Choose Grammar Made Easy. Begin with Foundations, build sentence skills with Builders, then explore more connected language in Storytellers. Suitable for learners around age 9+, families and beginners who appreciate English explanations. Available in French · Spanish · German · Italian.
A useful combination: choose one main course, such as For Real Life or Quest 365, then add a focused app when you want more practice in that area. You do not need to buy every app to begin.
French skills & discovery: which app first?
These five apps progress from beginner activities towards intermediate practice. Each has its own three stages, so choose the skill you want to strengthen and start with the first stage if you are unsure. Try the free previews on the product pages to find a comfortable challenge.
